Fireworks on the Lake

I have been begging the husband for several years to go to the amphitheater down at the lake for the big fireworks show. For all those years he has resisted because there is a ton of traffic. There's only a 2 lane highway that runs past the amphitheater. Makes the normal 25 minutes drive down there more like an hour.

So this year I never mentioned the fireworks show. I didn't think there was any point. And to my surprise the hubby decided we would go all on his own. After spending the day at the lake with family we came back home, gathered a few things and headed down to the other side of the lake to the amphitheater. We hung out with friends, went a little deaf from the bands  playing and waiting for the fireworks to begin. I think we'll be going down for the fireworks every 4th now which is fine with me. Fireworks are hard to photograph so I'll be trying to improve each year.

I'll give you fair warning here: photo heavy post from here on out.

This glider flew over as we were listening to the concert.

The boats were beginning to make their way and wait.

I love the sight of all the boats sitting in the water with their lights.

Someone was setting off their own fireworks from their boat before the show began.

Goodbye 2009

Catching up on my photos of the day for the end of 2009.

Thursday, December 24, 2009 – Santa came. There's nothing quite as magical as enjoying the Christmas tree after Santa has come with only the lights of the tree to illuminate the room.

Friday, December 25, 2009 – Christmas morning!

Saturday, December 26, 2009 – My sister opening her gift.

Sunday, December 27, 2009 – So cold, but so happy we have a fireplace.

Monday, December 28, 2009 – Afternoon moon.

Tuesday, December 29, 2009 – Working on my December Daily album, making a mess.

Wednesday, December 30, 2009 – Our cat socks decided he wanted to be rocked and hopped up into hubby's lap.

Thursday, December 31, 2009 – Found the kitten curled up in the beanbag snoozing away.

Merry Christmas

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a new year filled with wonder and blessings.

Second Attempt

As I’ve mentioned before I have a wonderful friend who always gifts me with homemade chocolate peanut butter balls for Christmas each year. It is probably my most favorite gift each year. I love them.

A couple of years ago I tried to make them myself. Total disaster. The recipe was her mother-in-law’s and not being an avid baker I never realized there was a difference in stick butter vs. tub butter.

So this year I decided to try again. This time they turned out much better. Mine still aren’t quite as pretty as my friend’s, but they tasted good and I don’t think they were too bad for only my second attempt.  I’m definitely going to hit the exercise pretty hard after the holidays. But for now I think I’ll just enjoy the deliciousness and share with family and friends.

Merry Christmas Eve!

More photos of the day. You can definitely tell it's Christmas in most of the photos.

Saturday, December 19, 2009 – Another trip to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. This time to see the last performance of Ferdinand the Bull. Great play for kids.

Sunday, December 20, 2009 – Candlelight service at church.

Monday, December 21, 2009 – Our niece opening her small diamond earrings from Granma & Papa.

Tuesday, December 22, 2009 – The star on our tree always ends up crooked.

Wednesdy, December 23, 2009 – Our youngest niece turned 12. I have photos of her for the past seveal years blowing out her candles on her cake.

So are you ready for tomorrow? Any last minutes gifts to buy? I have one more gift to finish making, but it will be okay if I don't finish it. It can be given and then completed later so I'm not stressing. Hoping to also make the homemade peanut butter balls I had planned on making a couple of days ago and didn't get to.
