Finally….

Yesterday afternoon my son was helping me get the garbage cans emptied when he says "did I tell you thank you for the spiderman trash can?" I know I bought this trash can for his room over a year ago and I’m sure he said thank you, but it was so nice to hear him remember on his own to say thank you.

For as long as I can remember I have loved to read. And I have wanted my son to be this way. He’s been learning to read for over a year now and this year he has to read to me every night for homework. Sometimes it’s been a battle, I mean really, what 6 year old boy wants to SIT STILL and read? This past weekend my mother gave him a chapter book, a Geronimo Stilton book. I think he has FINALLY discovered a love for reading. He took it with him to his other grandparents yesterday. He made his papa sit with him on a big rock so he could read some of the book to his papa. (My in-laws have these huge rocks in their yard that the kids love to climb and play on.) And today we went to our church’s family life center to walk and he took his book with him and read some of it in the car. So maybe, just maybe, he’s finally discovered that love of reading. And that makes me smile.
