Winter afternoon.

Beloved: greatly loved; dear to the heart.

My name: Amy. It means beloved.

It’s taken me years to rest in knowing I am loved because I am His. His love is not based on how well I perform. The struggle of perfection stealing true worth. Only through the eyes of experience can I now see that struggle for what it was — a lie.

I named myself imperfect instead of believing I was loved.

Lies bombard our thoughts hoping to replace the truth of His grace so I remind myself that He names us. The lies sound so much louder than truth.

Yes, He gives us names. Too often, though, we forget these names. We listen to other voices besides His and the names filled with lies.

Not good enough. Worthless. Hopeless. Unworthy. Unredeemable. Imperfect. Broken. Unloved.

Instead He tells us: You are good enough. You are worthy. You have hope. You are redeemed. You are perfected in Christ.

You are loved.

Thank-you for sharing the meaning. My middle name is Amy. I pray that it will be a reminder to both of us. We are beloved by God.

I’m next to you at the Faith Jam.

Amen. Why is it so hard, sometimes, to stop listening to our own voices and listen to His instead?!?ReplyCancel

“Beloved.” How cool is that? God knew and named you before the foundations of the universe. Clean truth is refreshing, regardless of the fallen world. I’m refreshed by your words, Amy. May God continue to open yours and all of our minds to His knowledge and wisdom.ReplyCancel

He seems to be speaking the same truth through all of us today.

We are so much more than we think we are.

    His. Beloved.

    Great words here.ReplyCancel

Yes. YES. Oh, that we might all finally throw off the names we’ve given ourselves, the names we’ve accepted from other people, the names we’ve long believed are really *ours*–and instead embrace the one name we’ve held since the beginning, Beloved. And maybe you’ve hit the nail on the head with this–we have to believe He’s the only one with the power to Name. Yes. Thank you for sharing this so beautifully.ReplyCancel
