My Purpose. Right here. Right now.

Several days a week I go to a fitness center to exercise. Windows line the side of the center with the treadmills overlooking the pool and lake. Makes for a nice workout. And quite honestly I've become very spoiled by it.

But it's the windows that can also make it distracting.

While you can be mesmerized by the beautiful view you can also become quite distracted by the reflections in the glass of everything going on around you. Sometimes so distracted my focus strays from my task of exercising.

I think that's the way it is with finding God's purpose for ourselves.

We tend to get distracted. Distraction comes in many forms. From success to the stress of your job or the economy. Distractions are all around.

For me distraction appears in the mundane. The household chores. The chauffeuring of Squirt to school and activities. As I've written before it all seems pointless at times.

But even more so I tend to get distracted by wanting to know God's specific purpose for me. For my gifts, my talents. Is there some grand plan for it all? I think we all want to make some dynamic impact. Something to be known for.

When really my focus should be on His purpose for me right here, right now. Right where I am. I often wonder if I'm doing what God wants me to do forgetting that he will use me where I am.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 (emphasis mine)

And that is my purpose. To allow God to use me, to bring Him glory right where I am. As a wife, mother, friend, daughter, writer, blogger, substitute teacher, photographer and all the other roles I take on daily. If I do each and everything for His glory and give it back to him as my worship then I am fulfilling my purpose.

In doing so I leave it to Him to fill in the details. Details so much more amazing than if I try to accomplish them on my own.

Do you sometimes get distracted instead of focusing on your purpose in the here and now? How do you stay focused?
